Geeta arya

Some people are born painting and creating with their hands. They don't understand concepts such as age and skill levels. All they know is that they must create just like they must breathe to live! Geeta was born with this weird trait.

When she was studying in Nursery (modern-day kindergarten), Geeta was told by her teacher in the art exam that she needs to paint inside the lines. Geeta had already painted a little bit outside the lines. So, with trepidation, she proceeded to paint both inside the lines and outside, hoping that the teacher would understand. She was too little to understand the red line under the 30 / 100 that was written on her report card that year. She had failed in only one subject in the exam. Art. "Weak in Drawing" was the bold statement her teacher wrote on her report card, which Geeta keeps today in a folder right next to the newspaper cutting of her first solo exhibition. With this exhibition, she became the first artist in India to do a solo art exhibition at a shopping mall.

She remembers the day she waited outside the house of an artist, having taken an appointment to meet her, to just understand how to do an exhibition in Bangalore. That day, she had traveled several hours by bus to meet this artist. But the artist made an excuse and never met her. Geeta remembers the countless treks across Bangalore to visit every art gallery she could, trying to get her realistic work exhibited, only to be told, "We don't keep such paintings here."

Today, nearly every mall has an art gallery or an art display, and Geeta has become a trail blazer in the world of art.

When she was young, Geeta saw how the middle class families banked on a ticket to a better life in a bigger city by getting jobs as engineers or doctors. She dutifully studied Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering finishing as the second topper of her batch, and then promptly got selected via campus interviews to work as an Operating Engineer with Anand Group of Industries. This started a 21-year-long corporate career, during which she got a degree in computers and a Masters in Marketing, all while working the 9-5 grind. She changed course several times during her career, when every role seemed to plateau off after a certain level of achievement. She headed marketing departments for niche brands, worked with brands to make them household names while exponentially multiplying their business; she succeeded spectacularly as a job holder.

But Geeta's first job had been wildly different. She started working at the age of 18, while studying engineering, as a Fine Arts Teacher at the same art school she graduated from when she was 12. This was the renowned Sunflower Art School of Rourkela that gave our nation a new breed of artists, designers, and animators. Today, students of Sunflower Art School hold top-tier roles across the global design and animation industry. Geeta taught hundreds of children and adults from 1998-2001, successfully mentoring several budding artists and running annual group exhibitions for Sunflower Art School. Students still reach out to her after two decades to catch up. Since the age of 11, she has been creating commissioned portraits, which are fondly cherished in several homes and institutions across the world.

In 2017, Geeta started fine art classes again for adults while working as a Manager. Several adults and children who joined her classes then are still her happy students. You will see their progress over the years in the students gallery section of this website.

In January 2021, Geeta finally decided to stop running away from her calling and quit her successful corporate career at its peak to start her own business, Geeta Arya Art Studio. Today, Geeta teaches both young and adult students, across the globe, joyfully imparting her love for creating, her absolute disregard for limitations, and the lessons she learned on her journey; to her students, who delightfully rediscover their limitless creativity with her, often surprising themselves by creating stunning masterpieces they had never even thought about attempting.

To Geeta, this is success.

With success came several perks. Geeta's interview with YourStory about her paintings exhibited at Chitra Santhe, gave her the stage to speak about her passionate views about art and painting. For her students, Geeta wants to create a set up that will enable them to succeed wildly financially as well as in all ways that truly matter. Geeta was the Judge of Honour for the Little Picasso Art Competition organized by Bharatiya Mall in 2002. Geeta's biggest perk, however, is the time she enjoys with her beloved students; laughing, exploring, and creating. And the quiet times she gets to paint for herself.

Geeta has won several awards at national level for her thought-leading oratory and writing skills and coaches young people one-on-one in public speaking and writing.
